The Best Farmers Markets in Cambridge, MA
Here at Chroma, we’re enjoying the warm weather and getting excited for our favorite activities that come with the season. One of those is our weekly visits to local farmers markets in Cambridge where we can stock up on fresh produce and try new offerings from some of our neighboring businesses. Whether we are walking or driving, these farmers markets are not too far from our community and should definitely be on your list to visit.
Charles Square Farmers Market
1 Bennett St. Cambridge, MA 02138
This one might be one the smaller farmers markets in Cambridge, but the quality is there nonetheless. They are stocked up with plenty of greens, vegetables, and berries, as well as potted herb plants that are perfect for your own garden. Throw in the fact that Hi-Rise Bakery is there dishing out their delicious breads, jams, and treats and we’re hooked. The Charles Square Farmers Market is open on Fridays from 12pm-6pm and Sunday 10am-3pm.
Kendall Square Farmers Market
350 Kendall St. Cambridge, MA 02142
Kendall Square is welcoming back some of their favorite vendors, but also introducing some new ones to the crowd that are eager to show off their fresh and local treats to the neighborhood. Some things that we are looking forward to are the artisan crafts and baked goods, but we won’t mind the fresh produce, dairy products (cheese!), and fresh flowers. The Kendall Square Farmers Market is held from June through October on Thursdays from 11am-2pm.
Harvard Farmers Market
1 Oxford St. Cambridge, MA 02138
The Harvard Farmers Market is a great option and has some of our favorite vendors such as C&C Lobsters and Fish, Stillman Meats, Mariposa Bakery (local), and When Pigs Fly (from York, ME). One thing to note is that vendor tents will not be supplying plastic bags anymore. But if you forget, reusable bags will be available at the Market Manager’s tent starting at $8. The Harvard Farmers Market is open on Tuesday from 12pm-6pm.
Brookline Farmers Market
Centre Street West Parking Lot – Brookline, MA
Okay, so this farmers market isn’t IN Cambridge, but it’s less than two miles from Chroma, and we love it, so it makes the list. This farmers market has been operating for over thirty years and brings a huge diversity of products to the table. You’ll find Stillman Meats here as well as Smith’s Country Cheese (hard to stay away from), and Boston Smoked Fish Co. delivers on amazing quality. We’re always picking up our fresh coffee beans from Valverde Coffee Roasters and ending our visit with homemade ice cream and yogurt from Trombetta’s Farm. They did welcome one new vendor: Green Line Growers, which is delivering some great produce to the neighborhood. The Brookline Farmers Market is open on Thursdays from June to November 1:30pm-6:30pm.
Chroma’s Vegetable and Herb Garden
240 Sidney St, Cambridge, MA 02139
Okay, so this isn’t a public farmers market, but we just had to toot our own horn. And since Green City Growers helped us set this up, we wanted to throw them a huge THANK YOU for their assistance. We’re all about sustainability, and if we can be self-sustainable – even better. We’re packing in basil, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, kale, lettuce, parsley, sweet and hot peppers, radishes, rosemary, thyme, and tomatoes. Yes, all the good stuff. We can’t wait to see how they come out!
