Small Business Saturday in Harvard Square
Every year on Thanksgiving, we spend an entire day giving thanks for all that we have. We gather together to share a giant, scrumptious meal with our loved ones, and we focus on how fortunate we are to have our families, friends, pets, health, jobs, apartment homes and anything else we hold dear. It’s a very special day many often immediately follow up by participating in the ominous day of materialistic madness that is Black Friday.
This year, some outdoor companies like REI are taking a new approach to Black Friday by remaining closed. REI’s #OptOutside campaign urges people to go outside and do something active in nature instead of wasting an entire day away scrambling to cash in on as many heavily discounted items as possible. Hopefully more businesses will soon imitate REI’s new initiative, but regardless of what happens to Black Friday in the future, the weekend after Thanksgiving will forever remain one of the most popular and lucrative shopping days of the year. That’s why Chroma is a huge advocate of Small Business Saturday (SBS) instead!
Established in 2010, SBS encourages holiday shoppers to patronize smaller local businesses instead of big box companies. Luckily for Chroma residents, you can’t get much more local than Harvard Square, which is less than two miles away! Here’s a sampling of some of the awesome promotions you can (and should!) capitalize on for Small Business Saturday in Harvard Square.
Every customer receives a Scratch & Save card with a minimum of 10% off and up to a 30% discount on everything (except sale items) November 28th-30th. Plus, if you have a sweet tooth, you’ll happily enjoy free pumpkin-themed candy and treats all weekend long!
Are you a poetry buff? If not, perhaps one of your loved ones is. Grolier is the oldest continuous poetry book shop in the United States, and they’ll be offering 20% off their beautiful tote bags. Stop by the shop, peruse some prose and pick up a tote!
