Chroma Cambridge’s Autumn Run Guide
We hate to break it to you but, now that Labor Day has come and gone, summer is officially over. Many of us use the fact that it’s the summertime as added incentive to exercise more, eat healthier and sculpt our warm weather bods. But what happens when fall arrives? The Cambridge temperature starts to drop, and those glorious summer vacations we were working our butts off to look super svelte for become a distant memory.
Now is the time to seek new motivation to stick with our workout plans! Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas will all be here before we know it, which means there are oodles of high-calorie meals, beverages and other yummy treats in the not-too-distant future. We should probably keep ourselves fit in preparation, right? One of the best ways to continue our fitness regimes well into the colorful months of autumn is by running (or walking) a 5k or half marathon, and there are several local races to choose from in the next month alone! To help you out, we present Chroma Cambridge’s Autumn Run Guide.
PROSPECT BANDIT RUN 5K
If you’re in need of a little adventure in your life, the Prospect Bandit Run (PBR) 5K on Saturday, September 12th in Waltham is the 3.1-mile run for you! The PBR race course is a half-paved, half-dirt trail featuring stairs, a 480-foot elevation gain, 360-degree views from Little Prospect and Boston Rock, and a thrilling downhill final stretch. This isn’t your average 5k and, whether you run or walk, you’re guaranteed to be proud of yourself when you cross the finish line. For registration information, visit their website here.
WICKED HALF MARATHON
The 8th annual Wicked Half Marathon on Saturday, September 19th in Salem attracts runners from all over the world! The race course is on the streets of Salem and Marblehead and, just so you know what to expect, there are five good uphill climbs and a few rolling hills but, luckily, the rest is fairly flat. Completing a half marathon may not be quite as big an accomplishment as completing a full marathon, but it’s still a very noteworthy accomplishment! Don’t underestimate yourself, sign up today!
CAMBRIDGE OKTOBERFEST 5K
It doesn’t get much better than a German-themed 5k road race costume party through our very own Kendall Square. On Sunday, October 4th, dress in your best Lederhosen or Dirndl, and you might even win yourself a rad prize in the German costume contest! All registrants will receive a race T-shirt as well as food and beverages at the ultimate post-race Oktoberfest fiesta sponsored by Cambridge Brewing Co, Notch Brewing, Swiss Bakers and Jacob Wirth.
